IRS to Scrutinize Academic Institutions’
Finances, Including Tech-Transfer Activity

Saying that it wants “to build a better understanding of the largest, most complex organizations in the tax-exempt sector,” the IRS last week began sending compliance questionnaires to approximately four hundred US colleges and universities as part of an effort by the agency to gather information about their financial practices, including those related to technology licensing, investments, and corporate sponsorship.
